Have you spilled diet coke on your carpet? If so, you should be happy to hear that it is a rather common and easy stain to deal with. Here is what you will need to remove this stain. You will need some white terry cloth/cotton towels or a roll of paper towels. Dye free paper towels are preferred. You will need a general spotter which can be made by adding a tablespoon of a mild dish soap to a quart of water. Do not use laundry soap, automatic dish soap, hand soap or any other kind of soap. Finally, you will need a vinegar solution made from one part white distilled vinegar and three parts of water.
- Step 1:
If the spot is fresh, dab the spot with clean and dry towels until no more of the stain transfers to the cloth. Be sure to dab and do not rub the spot. Rubbing the spot will abrade the fibers.
- Step 2:
Lightly mist the spot with your general spotter. Allow the spotter to dwell for a few seconds and then blot it up with your towel. Once again, dab the spot, do not rub.
- Step 3:
Repeat this process until no more of the Diet Coke stain transfers to your cloth.
- Step 4:
Neutralize your spotter with your vinegar solution. Apply a generous amount of the vinegar solution to the spot without over saturating the area. Blot the solution up after giving it a few seconds of dwell time.
- Step 5:
Allow the area to fully dry before putting it back to use. A small portable fan can be uses to speed drying time.
