Mirror Cleaning

Mirrors can be a difficult household item to clean. This is because the reflective surface that makes them work also highlights every spec of dirt that is on them. So, to get a mirror to truly look clean, you need to get it nearly completely free of soil. Here is how you can do that.

Basic Cleaning

If you are not particular and just want a mirror that is pretty clean, you can simply use paper towels and a household window cleaner. Spray the mirror with the cleaner and allow it to dwell for a few moments. The dwell time will allow it to break down soil. Now, wipe the mirror clean with your paper towels. This method will get the mirror clean but may also leave specs of paper towel on the surface. Specs that will be highlighted by the reflective surface.

Lint Free Cleaning

To clean your mirror without leaving lint behind, you will make use of paper towels. Spray the mirror with your glass cleaner and again allow it to dwell for a few moments. Now, wipe down the mirror with the newspaper. You will see that it works just as well as a paper towel but it does not leave behind lint. Even better, is the fact that it is probably free. Just grab a stack of those free newspapers next time you go to the store. Or, you can use those grocery store ads you get in the mail each week.

Mirror Cleaning Tips

  • Want a more natural cleaner? Try using a mixture of vinegar and water instead of a glass cleaner.
  • Be careful to not get the edge of a mirror overly wet. This could damage the reflective finish of the mirror.
  • To make a vinegar cleaning solution, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to a quart of water.
