Bookshelf Cleaning

Like everything else in your home, bookshelves get dirty. They gradually build up dust and dirt and will need to be cleaned. It can be a pain to clean a bookshelf however because of the many items that are stored on them. Here are some easy ways to clean your home’s bookshelves.
Lightly soiled bookshelves. If your shelves are only lightly soiled, you might be able to get away with cleaning them without removing all of their contents. One way to do this is with a common duster or a swiffer. Swiffer cleaners will also trap the dust instead of simply moving it to another location. Another easy way to remove light soil is with a can of compressed air like the one you use to clean your computer. Just be careful not to knock off light items or knick knacks.
Heavily soiled bookshelves. If your shelves are heavily soiled from neglect or from being in a high dust environment, you will need to spend a little more time on them. First, you will need to remove all of the items from the shelves and store them out of the way. Next, you will wipe down the shelves with a cleaner and a rag. If your shelves are not wooden, windex works very well. If they are made of wood, you should use a wood cleaner such as pledge. Be sure to get into all of the cracks and crevices. When you are finished, wipe the entire shelf down again with a dry cloth to remove any moisture that you might have missed. Finally, replace the books and knick knacks.
