How do I remove furniture dents from carpet?

When you place heavy furniture on a carpet, over time it will leave an impression. Removing the furniture will often expose a dent or depression in the carpet. If you are dealing with the situation, you would probably like to know a way to remove these dents.
Before I tell you ways that you can correct furniture dents, I have some bad news for you. They do not always come out. Whether or not they will come out of your carpet depends on a number of factors. Those factors include the type of carpet in question, the weight of the furniture and how long the furniture has been in place. Some carpets, for example, like Berber are much more likely to have permanent dents from furniture. Also, if the furniture is very heavy or has been in place for a very long time, it will be harder to remove the dents.
There are several different ways that you can remove or at least lessen the appearance of furniture dents. One method involves ice cubes or ice chips. Place a couple of ice chips in the furniture dent and allow the ice to slowly melt. As the ice melts, it will release water into the carpet. The carpet was slowly absorb the moisture and will expand, lessening the appearance of the furniture dent.
Another way to lessen the appearance of furniture dents is to have the carpet professionally steam cleaned. Steam cleaning with a high-powered truckmounted carpet cleaner can often remove furniture dents. In the case of severe dents where removal is not possible, a good steam cleaning well at least improve the appearance.
One last method to remove dents is to be patient. Over time, they will probably improve on their own. It might take several months but in most cases they will improve on their own with normal carpet use.
