Upholstery cleaning is very similar to carpet cleaning in that it has to be done right if you want to protect the life of your furniture. It is however, much easier to destroy than carpet. This is why it is so important to not shop for an upholstery cleaner based solely on price. Cheap upholstery cleaning will typically leave you with a piece of furniture that is poorly cleaned or even one that has been completely destroyed.
Why Should You NOT Hire A Cheap Upholstery Cleaner?
1. They lack the experience to get the job done right.
If they had gone through the training necessary to clean upholstery correctly, they would not undervalue their service in the first place. It can take years for a carpet cleaner to truly master the art of upholstery cleaning. Consumers mus pay for this experience, if they want the job done right that is.
2. They lack the proper cleaning equipment.
It is very common to see cheap upholstery cleaners cleaning a sofa or couch with a stair tool. This is a horrible practice because stair tools are not designed to be used on upholstery. They put down too much moisture in an uncontrolled fashion. Cheap cleaners use them because they can clean large areas in a short time but a proper upholstery tool would do the job better and much safer. It would take longer though and many of these tools are expensive.
3. They will rush through the job.
The average sofa, when cleaned properly, takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. A cheap cleaner will clean a piece in 15 to 30 minutes. They are obviously going to miss some things when they rush this much. You will be left with a sofa, chair or couch that is soaked and possibly ruined. You will also probably be left with a lot of soil that was not removed from the upholstery.
4. You care about your upholstery.
You obviously care about your furniture if you are having it cleaned. Is it worth the risk of a thousand dollar couch to save $50? Probably not. So, spend a few extra bucks and have a trained professional clean your upholstery.
