Ten Window Cleaning Tips
Few things make your home look nicer than clean windows. We want to have them but we hate to clean them. If it is time to take care of your windows, here are some tips that will help make the job go smoother.
- Choose your time wisely.
You do not want to clean your windows when the sun is shining brightly through them. Bright sun would cause your cleaning solution to dry too quickly, causing streaks.
- Save money by using vinegar.
You can make a cheap and effective cleaning solution by adding 2 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar to a quart of water in a spray bottle.
- Save more money by using newspaper.
Newspaper can be used instead of paper towels. They are cheaper and leave no lint behind.
- Don’t forget the window panes and the window track.
These are neglected parts of your window, but they get dirty too. Use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment to clean out the tracks.
- Grab a bucket, a sponge and a squeegee.
If you are cleaning outside windows paper towels are useless. Get a bucket with some soapy water and wipe the window down. Follow this with a squeegee.
- Set up a schedule.
Set a time to do your windows each month. This will help keep them from getting overwhelmingly gross.
- Keep a toothbrush handy.
There is always a use for an old toothbrush. You can use them to clean the corners or difficult to reach parts of the window frame.
- Clean your screens with a vacuum.
A vacuum with a hand attachment will make short work of dusty screens.
- Work from top to bottom.
It should be obvious, but work from top to bottom to keep from resoiling parts that you have already cleaned.
- Use proper ladder safety.
If you are cleaning high outside or inside windows, use proper ladder safety. Never reach far from your body, instead move the ladder.
