How do you clean an iron?
Your iron is a very useful household tool that in most cases requires no maintenance. Occasionally however, your iron’s sole plate might become soiled. Here are some tips on how to clean it.
If you have gotten an oily substance on the iron, simply take a rag soaked lightly in ammonia and wipe it off. Follow this with some clear water on a clean rag.
If you have gotten wax on your iron, just turn it on to a high setting. Once heated, simply wipe the wax off of the iron.
If the steam vents have become clogged, use a q tip, tooth pick or a pipe cleaner to clean them out. Be careful not to scratch the surface because this will cause the iron to rust.
If the sole plate is soiled with normal dirt, use a solution of vinegar and water to wipe it clean.
If the reservoir is dirty, fill it with a solution of one part vinegar and one part water. Allow the iron to heat up and then turn it off and drain it. Clean it with fresh water before using it on clothing. To prevent the reservoir from becoming dirty, use distilled water.
